General Info - McKean
See McKean schedule for Inmate Visitation Days
We do not provide door to door service for McKean. We do pickup in at least one location in all the boroughs, except Staten Island. To see the locations, go to McKean- pickup locations. It gives you the exact location and meeting time. Effective November 2013, we will charge one fare for all ages. Kids under the age of two are not charged. So everyone two years old and older will be charged the same fare.
There are two facilities at McKean, the Medium Security Prison and the Camp. Visitor processing starts at 8:30AM at the medium and also at the Camp. We normally arrive between 8:00AM and 8:30AM.
The ride is about 5 hours long and we make a couple of stops. The first stop is for refreshment and restroom use. The second stop is longer, so you can freshen up, change clothes if necessary and get breakfast. We also make two stops on the way back to get dinner at first, then gas and use the restroom on the second stop.
You will need change for the vending machines while on the visit. No currency greater than a $5 note is allowed inside the visiting room. Your cash can be carried in a clear transparent container. Necessary items for a baby can also be taken in to the visit as well. See their website for more information. Any other belonging has to be left in the van. Lockers are not provided at McKean.
Please be advised that the information provided here concerning McKean is basic and generalized. For complete and precise information you should speak to an employee of the Facility or to an inmate there.
